Introducing scheme walkabouts: connecting you to your Neighbourhood Officer

Mandy Durber (7)

This Autumn, we launch a new initiative to help connect you to your Neighbourhood Officer and wider community.

At Staffs Housing, we’re always looking for new ways to make sure our residents feel supported, heard, and connected. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our scheme walkabouts initiative — a new effort to bring our Neighbourhood Officers closer to the communities they serve and make it easier for you to speak with them directly.

We know how important it is for you to feel at home and secure in your neighbourhood. Whether it’s resolving a maintenance issue, discussing improvements, or simply sharing your thoughts about how we can enhance your living experience, we want you to have a direct line to the people who can help.

What are scheme walkabouts?

Starting this Autumn, our Neighbourhood Officers, will be visiting your schemes regularly, making themselves available for face-to-face conversations with you. During the visits the team will focus on:

·        Being accessible: this is your chance to talk to your Neighbourhood Officer about any issues or concerns you may have. Whether that’s maintenance, security, or general neighbourhood matters, they’ll be there to listen and help.

·       Spotting issues: our officers will also be walking through the scheme to spot any potential problems — from repairs to environmental concerns. If they see something that needs attention, they’ll take immediate action to ensure it gets addressed.

·       Building stronger connections: we understand that sometimes it’s easier to have a quick chat when you see someone face-to-face, rather than going through formal processes. Our officers will be on hand to talk about anything that matters to you, from your home to your wider community.

Why are we doing this?

We’re committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for all our residents. By having our Neighbourhood Officers present in your scheme more often, we’re aiming to:

·       Improve communication: we want to make it easier for you to get in touch with us. No more waiting for emails or phone calls — if you need to speak to your officer, you can catch them during the walkabout.

·       Enhance responsiveness: with more frequent visits, we’ll be able to identify problems early and take quicker action. If something’s broken, if there’s a safety concern, or if you simply need help with something, we want to respond promptly.

·       Create a more connected community: by having regular face-to-face interactions, we’re building stronger relationships between you, your Neighbourhood Officer, and your fellow residents. A connected community is a stronger one.

How can you get involved?

The scheme walkabouts have been crafted just for you, and we encourage you to take advantage.

·       Come and say hello: if you see your Neighbourhood Officer during one of their walkabouts, don’t hesitate to stop and chat to them. Whether it’s a quick hello, or a more in-depth conversation, they’re there for you.

·       Share your feedback: this is your chance to tell us what’s working well in your community and where we can improve. We value your opinions and want to hear about any concerns or suggestions you have.

·       Report issues: if you notice something needs attention – be it a broken light, an issues with cleanliness, or a safety concern – your officer will be there to take note and ensure it gets sorted.

When will they take place?

The Neighbourhood Team will be visiting your homes and schemes throughout the next year.

You can view the proposed* timetable here. This gives you a guide on when you can expect the team to visit your scheme or community. They’ll be in touch with you closer to the date to confirm the specifics, so you can attend, look out for a text message and scheme posters.
